Reliable pet health advice is out there. Here is where to find it.
The internet contains no shortage of information about pet health. The difficulty is knowing which sources to trust. The organisations listed below are the ones we point our clients to. They are independent, UK-based and written or overseen by qualified veterinary professionals. You will not find commercial agendas or foreign guidelines that don’t apply here. You’ll just find straightforward, accurate information that is relevant to pet owners in this country.

If you need to know what the law says about keeping, travelling with or identifying your pet, this is where to look. |
| Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) | The government agency responsible for regulating veterinary medicines in the UK. Useful if you want to understand how treatments are licensed, what prescription rules mean in practice or how parasite treatments are assessed for safety and efficacy. |

| Cats Protection | The UK’s leading cat welfare charity, with a comprehensive library of vet-reviewed guidance covering everything from vaccination schedules, neutering and spaying to indoor cat health and serious conditions. | PDSA | One of the most comprehensive and reliable sources of pet health information available in the UK. The PDSA’s online pet health hub is written and maintained by qualified vets and nurses and covers conditions, treatments, preventative care and procedures in plain, accessible language. |
| RSPCA | The UK’s largest animal welfare charity. The RSPCA’s pet care and health guidance is practical, well-evidenced and written with the general pet owner in mind. Particularly useful for information on responsible ownership, vaccination, neutering and animal welfare standards. |
| Blue Cross | A UK-based animal welfare charity offering accessible, vet-reviewed guidance across a wide range of topics including pet health, dental care, nutrition and end of life. The Blue Cross also provides support services for owners who are struggling with the cost of veterinary care. |
| Dogs Trust | The UK’s largest dog welfare charity. Dogs Trust offers extensive guidance on responsible dog ownership, including neutering, spaying, microchipping, behaviour and bereavement support. Their resources are practical and written for everyday dog owners. |
| BSAVA | The British Small Animal Veterinary Association is a membership organisation dedicated to supporting small animal veterinary professionals, rather than pet owners, but their clinical guidelines and published resources inform the standards of care your pet receives. |
