Veterinary Consultations
At Bowbridge Vets, we believe great veterinary care starts with a genuine relationship between you, your pet, and our team. Whether you are visiting us for a routine check-up or have a specific concern, our experienced team takes the time to listen, truly getting to know you and how you would like your pet to be treated.
When should you book a consultation?
While we love seeing healthy pets for their routine check-ups, you should book an appointment if you notice any changes in your pet’s behaviour or physical condition. This includes:
- Changes in appetite or drinking habits.
- Lumps, bumps, or skin irritations.
- Lethargy or changes in exercise tolerance.
- Digestive upsets or dental discomfort.
- Anything that doesn’t seem or feel quite right with your pet.
What to expect from a consultation
We’ve been part of the Stroud and Stonehouse community since 1967, and we’re proud that our consultations remain focused on what matters: your pet’s wellbeing. During a standard consultation, we provide:
- A Full Clinical Examination: We check your pet from nose to tail, assessing their weight, heart, coat, and general health.
- A Chance to Listen: We want to hear your observations, as you know your pet better than anyone else.
- Professional Advice: You’ll receive honest, straightforward advice and the kind of care you’d want for a member of your own family.
- Transparent Options: We will always give you treatment options that reflect your values and your circumstances.
Why Choose Bowbridge Vets?
Bowbridge Vets has been caring for the pets of Stroud and Stonehouse since 1967. Our team of RCVS-registered vets and Registered Veterinary Nurses brings decades of combined clinical experience to every appointment, from routine preventative care to complex primary care cases.
Most of our team have been with us for many decades, which means your pet is seen by people who know them, and who they know.
As an independent practice, we are not part of a corporate group. Every clinical decision is made by the vet in front of you, based entirely on what is right for your pet.
Our clients trust us with their pets year after year. That trust, built over more than half a century in this community, is something we work hard to preserve.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a standard consultation last?
We believe in taking the time to listen and truly getting to know your pet, so we ensure our consultation slots allow for a thorough examination. This ensures we never have to take shortcuts with your pet's health. If your pet has multiple or complex issues that need more time, please let our welcoming team know when booking so we can accommodate your needs and provide the honest, expert care you expect.
Can I request to see the same vet each time?
We know that a genuine relationship between you, your pet, and our team is the foundation of great care. Many of our staff have been with us for a long time, and we always do our best to book you in with your preferred vet to ensure continuity. This allows us to better understand your pet's history and how you would like them to be treated, ensuring a personalised experience every single time.
What should I bring to my pet's consultation?
If you are a new client joining the Bowbridge Vets family, it is helpful to bring any previous medical history or vaccination cards. For all appointments, we recommend making a quick note of any specific concerns or changes in your pet's routine. Because every pet is different, having these details helps us provide transparent, honest advice that is tailored specifically to your pet's unique circumstances and health requirements.
What happens if my pet needs urgent attention?
Whether it's a routine check-up or something that needs urgent attention, our experienced team is here to provide the care your pet deserves. We provide emergency cover for our registered patients, ensuring a vet is on hand when you need it most. Outside of our normal opening hours, our phone lines are automatically diverted to our trusted emergency service partner, so your pet is always looked after by experts.
